Look at Turkey's Intentions - By Turkey's Own WordsReader comment on item: On the Eve of Turkey's Elections ... Submitted by M. Tovey (United States), Jun 13, 2011 at 10:37 In this, the very argument that whatever relationship there was with Turkey and the United States there was in the past, is being redefined; not by the United States, but by Turkey. This is the way the revised Turkey has said they want it. There is the repetition of the statement: be careful what you ask for, you just might get it. Turkey is asking, nay demanding a different recognition of that nation's place in the Middle East, with a de facto understanding that if and when so recognized with a sense of responsibility for the peace in the region, then would come the prestige that would be accorded a peacemaking nation. Unfortunately, the newfound associations with clear animosity towards the unwanted in the region are poised to defeat Turkey's efforts at a peacemaking, Turkey becoming a foil for other aspirations. Really, it is too bad, for Turkey's history has always been at the crossroads of destiny and at the course now plotted, a collision is definitively on the horizon.
