The entire ad stinks of hypocrisyReader comment on item: The "Islamic Fashion Festival" Goes to Milan Submitted by Prashant (United States), Jul 19, 2011 at 11:44 Dear Dr Pipes: The "pretty pink" picture and the English comment included with it in the ad of Islamic fashions smells of hypocisy. Let me reproduce the comment here: "when she covers herself, she puts herself on a higher level and respect for her intellect, her faith and personality will take precedence over her beauty". Reader Susan correctly pointed out that there is not much freedom for Muslim women to pursue intellect. Similarly, reader Anna from Netherlands correctly pointed out that the true colors of women in Islam are not so much the pretty pink shown in the ad as the black burqa that is so commonly observed on the airports but is not shown in the ad. But the deliberate lies and misrepresentation do not stop there. As more and more people object to the status of women in Islam, the Islamists now use the western terminology to advertise their religion. The traits that are exactly not present in Islamic life are used to advertise the religion. Islamic fashion highlight intellect. How many women philosophers has Saudi Arabia recently produced? For crying out loud, how many women Islamic scholars has Islamic world produced? Islamic fashion highlight a woman's personality. What part her personality do you want to highlight and what can be highlighted when hidden behind a burqa? I end this letter with a hint: the only way to breed intellectualism is to allow free thought and free actions.
