Dr Pipes is not cynicalReader comment on item: The "Islamic Fashion Festival" Goes to Milan Submitted by Prashant (United States), Jul 20, 2011 at 22:59 Dear Readers: Are hijab and burka modest or they are extreme? I think wrapping your face in a scarf so much that only half of the forehead and some of the chin is visible can be very uncomfortable when the weather is hot and humid. An instruction to do so is not a sign of modesty but of extremism. Similarly, covering your body so much that only your eyes are visible and those too through a net is also extreme. And, then, calling this extremism a sign of faith and intellect and applying it singularly to one of the two sexes is nothing but the remote end of extreme. So Dr Pipes is not being cynical, he is just being objective. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
