Erekat's delusionReader comment on item: Declaring a Palestinian State, Yet Again Submitted by Abu Nudnik (Canada), Aug 7, 2011 at 11:30 A recent youtube video by Danny Ayalon attempted to put the history in perspective. Amazingly, Erekat complained that the video proved Israel's expansionist ambitions. His second complaint was even more revealing, claiming that the Israelis were taking resolution 181 off the table. Off the table? The Arab Palestinians adamantly rejected that resolution and its two-state solution. That was 64 years ago before three wars of annihilation were waged against the Israeli state to take through violence what it would not accept through negotiation!!! It is instructive to look a the difference between how Western powers negotiate and how some Easterners, Arabs included, do it. To Westerners, a contract must be agreed to by both sides and both are bound by the contract. I do this because you agreed to do that. Quid pro quo. But the Arab sees negotiations as a question of gifts. Whatever is put on the table is accepted, now and forever, as a gift. In return, they give back what they feel is just. To compound matters, lying to one's enemy, particularly non-Muslims, is considered honorable, praiseworthy, godly, following in the footsteps of the military practices of Mohamed. To give anything more than inferior status to a non-Muslim would be unjust to Muslims and to God. I'm not making this up. This cultural difference is very real. Erekat's response to Ayalon's video proves it. "Erekat continued: "In its desperate attempt to gear international discourse away from the pursuit of genuine peace to the outdated arguments of those who oppose it, this official video went as far as discarding United Nations Resolution 181 (II). I want to remind the government of Israel that it was accepted at the UN as a full member based on its acceptance of this resolution." [my emphasis] "Outdated arguments!" That's rich! But resolution 181 (not passed because not agreed to) is not "outdated!" Nor is the necessity to give back Iberia (Andalusia) to Islam (see Hamas Charter, bin Laden's September 2001 speech) This is the plan the Arabs rejected in 1947 (resolution 181) Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
