Loss of Control in SinaiReader comment on item: Egypt's Military Holds onto Power Submitted by David R. Fine (Canada), Aug 8, 2011 at 15:08 Ever since Mubarak's downfall, I have kept at the back of my mind Daniel Pipes' comments about the Egyptian "revolution". I have accepted his argument that this was really more of a military coup d'etat than a popular revolution. However, I have been alarmed by reports of increasing anarchy and politically-motivated violence occurring in the Sinai, where armed groups have attacked police stations, natural gas pipelines, etc. From what I can tell, the Egyptian army has been sitting on its hands. I cannot understand why the military doesn't. take firmer action to address these challenges to their authority.
