Are western powers to blame?Reader comment on item: Egypt's Military Holds onto Power Submitted by Prashant (United States), Aug 9, 2011 at 02:34 Are western powers to credit/blame for Arab Spring? Nah! By waging wars in various middle eastern countries the western powers are unnecessarily legitimizing the islamist forces. The true enemy of Islamism is the modern era of mass communication. The war has just begun and Islamists will lose. It is easy to post millions of videos advertising Islam on you tube, it is very difficult to make people watch them. It is even more difficult to make young muslims (in fact all muslims) follow a 1400 years old doctrine which does not stand to modern reasons. Western policy toward Islam should be that of containment and decisive and limited engagement (like the killing of bin Laden). Fundamentalism will die its own death very fast.
