What if Maldives sinks into the sea (with Special request for response from Muslim readers)Reader comment on item: Syria and Iran in the news Submitted by Prashant (United States), Feb 10, 2012 at 03:21 Dear Dr Pipes: Reponding to my comments on Maldives your reader Grand Infidel reminded every one that Maldives is in real danger of sinking into the sea if Global warming is for real. I wish that never happens. But Grand Infidel also informed me that Maldivian people (who are 100% Sunni Muslims) plan to immigrate to India or Australia should their country sinks into the ocean. That brings out a strange irony. Maldives is an Islamic Country where practice of other religions is banned. I also read that no non-Muslim can become a citizen of that country. I know that symmetry/golden-rule is not a Islamic virtue but still if Maldivian population has to migrate to a foreign land what moral right will they have to seek shelter in a Hindu majority secular India or a Christian majority secular Australia. Recall that Indian Hindus or Australian Christians cannot even practice their religions in Maldives. Will some Islamic scholar reading this message be kind enough to reply.
