Something went unmentioned regarding the downfall of Assad

If/when Assad falls and the Syria-Iran alliance falls apart, the status quo ante is alliance with Egypt. The long term problem associated with this seems quite serious in light of current events in Egypt.

There may be some sense of respite when the Assad regime falls, but I believe this will be brief.
