Another "Occupation" in the Making?Reader comment on item: Reflections a Year after Hosni Mubarak's Resignation Submitted by Liz Wagner (United States), Feb 11, 2012 at 11:00 This is exactly how Israel got stuck with responsibility for the Palestinians. Arab leaders, in this case Assad, incapable of governing rationally, destroy their people's lives through the misuse of military power, and Israel steps in to clean up the mess. One can only hope that, Israel will be smarter this time. In that I mean Israel should find ways to use her generosity in providing for Syrian refugees to remind the world that when she last provided food, shelter and safety to Arab refugees Arab governments had abandoned, the world thanked her by accusing her of "occupation." She should be clear that her help is temporary and that her Arab neighbors must be held responsible for absorbing refugees if they cannot, or will not return to Syria.
