War of words. half of the Italians should be in jailReader comment on item: Radical Islam's Hypocrisy Submitted by Bruno G (Italy), Jan 19, 2005 at 12:54 I'm very, very far from being a friend of islam, so don't take my words in a misleading way.But I think in both cases American authorities showed an almost Stalinist attitude: both men pronounced just words. Here in Italy many people get very hot when litigating, at least here in the North, verbal offenses never get into real action. A bit different in the South, i concede, over there some people may kill for a wrong word. But the behavior of your authorities smacks of witchunt: even the Moslem was most likely showing just verbal bravado, which is typical of his area of origin. I don't condone it, be it clear. While I do think that fundamentalist Islam should never be allowed in European countries, while I do think Islam is here to conquer, I do not like any trial of pure verbal intentions, if people just vent their anger in the wrong way. I would absolutely side with the American man, while I do think that the Moslem one would rightly pertain to another continent. Anyway I see that the American authorities were heavy handed in both cases. The Moslem's bad temper should just be the ground for a serious investigation of his possible sympathies towards terrorism, that's for sure. If we would take this approach here, half the country would be in jail, including several housewives.
