Advantages of Turkish Syria war?Reader comment on item: Turkish-Syrian Tensions Flare Anew Submitted by Shishir (United Arab Emirates), Nov 12, 2012 at 05:40 Firstly I would like to address Assad dismissing Erdogan as a Caliph thinking that would earn him ridicule among the Middle Eastern masses.This shows how tone deaf Assad really is.In his mind he is still living in the glory days of Arab Nationalism for the late 40s to the 60s.Clearly the disadvantage of running a dynastic dictatorship comprised of a rump minority in a state is that one always hears what they want to hear and this puts one out of step with the rapidly changing world around them. A Turkish invasion/occupation of Syria would do terrible damage to Arab morale.And perhaps would provide yet another advantage of intra Muslim squabbles .This time on an ethnic basis(Arab vs non Arab) rather than sectarian(Shia vs Sunni) The West should employ a carrot and stick approach to Turkeys war against Syria(which the former is a sure bet as victor) is that they can do to Turkish credibility and rule in Syria what Iranians ,Syrians and Al Qaeda did to American run Iraq. Only then would both parties behave. Submitting....
