But what if the Islamist Winter last decades?Reader comment on item: Israel at Peace Submitted by PezDispenser (Israel), Dec 19, 2012 at 16:55 If an Islamist Egypt and Syria surround Israel for the next 70 years, what makes you think that the Palestinians will moderate to the point where they agree to peace? The regional environment must account for something. Sadly, the 2030s sounds like a premature date for your vision. One century sounds more plausible, since they will be egged on from the outside and inside to keep up the fight. Indeed, it seems to me that as long as Israel is surrounded by new "strong/crazy horses" dedicated to her destruction, the Palestinians will remain hopeful of victory coming from the outside. On the other hand, only when the Islamist regimes prove to be an utter failure and are ousted from power across the region will the Palestinians begin to seek compromises because then Pan Arabism and Islamism will be in the dustbin and only democracy will be left.
