Israel never had a friendly relationship with this Turkish regime

Reader comment on item: Futile Israeli Efforts to Win Ankara Back

Submitted by Herbert Grossman (United States), Feb 20, 2013 at 18:48

Israel's friendly relationship was with secular holdovers in the military and government from the prior regimes until Erdogan cashiered and incarcerated them preemptively (over 250 officers and former officers, and 100 journalists, now imprisoned) and felt free to assert his Islamist credentials, including his hatred for Jews and Israel. Israel cannot reestablish what never existed -- a friendly relationship with an anti-Semitic regime which seeks to annihilate the Jews of Israel. Turkey is a Trojan Horse in NATO and other groupings with the US and Europe, and any military or other assistance they give it will come back to haunt them. Those same blame-the-Jews-for-everything Jews who believe that appeasing the Palestinian Arabs will bring peace also believe that if Israel grovels before the Turks, they, too, will clutch us to their bosoms. Craven and foolish!
