True, But I'm Concerned For The "Israeli Soul"

Mr. Pipes,

Like you, I am very supportive of Israel, and happy to see good things happen to Israel. Your list is impressive and satisfying. And yet...

Israelis really are unconcerned with the plight of the Palestinians. As self-inflicted as the Palestinians' plight may be, the "it's not our problem" attitude of Israelis (and even more so, of Western Jews) does not befit our history, or the moral obligation placed on us by G-d to be "a light unto the nations".

I am concerned that Israel's tough neighbourhood is corroding our entire nation's character. We must not allow ourselves to be satisfied with our economic, cultural, and self-defense successes. Instead, we must always seek out an ever more humanitarian world, tikkun olam.

Of course, none of this in any way prohibits us from flaunting our successes in the faces of haters!! ;-)
