Jonathan Pollard will probably die in prisonReader comment on item: Pollard Pardon? Not Now Submitted by Michael S. (United States), Mar 12, 2014 at 15:45 Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama have all knowingly done injustice to Jonathan, even after Caspar Weinberger and others have admitted that he is being wrongly punished. Many Israeli PMs have been in office since then: Netanyahu, Barak, Sharon, Olmert, Livni; and two Israeli Presidents: Katzav and Peres. In the push and pull of politics, any combination of these could have secured his release. Only a tiny fraction of the public in the US, and probably not very many in Israel, seem to even know much about his case, much less be interested in it; so releasing him -- especially on humanitarian grounds -- would probably not have much impact politically. As for the Jewish communities in the US and Israel, it seems to me they've been divided for years; and in fact, I am under the impression that the American Jewish leadership were the ones most adamant that Jonathan NOT be released in the early days. The fact that George W. Bush did nothing for Jonathan, during years of very pro-Israel sentiment in the American people and all branches of government, makes me think that Jonathan has for years been considered a dead dog that everyone, especially the Jews, have wanted to let lie. There is no political profit for anyone, to keep Jonathan locked up -- except, perhaps, to please some highly placed antiSemites who want him to suffer for personal reasons. May those men and women be specially tormented in eternity. I EXPECT Obama to be a Jew-hater and Israel-hater; but I am much more dismayed to think that presumably Christian and pro-Israel George W. Bush behaved no better than Obama. I sense that there is a deep evil here, that has not come to light. It eventually will, and I hope the guilty parties are tormented by it.
