Btw: I would say 'geldschenker', which you report as having been mentioned to you by a Dutch correspondent, is a rather unusual word in Dutch, sounding pretty much outdated and/or as being formal lawyerspeak. Nowadays, we would indeed use either 'donateur' or 'sponsor'.
