Wilders representative of The NethelandsReader comment on item: Hating Geert Wilders Submitted by myth (Germany), Mar 28, 2014 at 04:43 Jan, I assume you are Dutch and I assume you know Germany for your post comes from that country. I understand you feel that way, many Dutch do. Does Wilders give The Netherlands a bad name ? Regardless of the content of Wilders' communication with the public I find he is in his style very representative of The Netherlands. As compared to Germany I find the Dutch very outspoken and dead-pragmatic in their problem-solving. Wilders on top of it all, by means of being funny, makes the evening news. I see Wilders very much as the common-man dutch-style type politician. That's part of his success. Critics call this populism. If you compare Wilders not with the established politicians but rather with other right-wing-parties in Europe, you may find some peace of mind. Wilders is by a large margin the more civilized, the more decent choice, say compared against Vlaams Belang in Belgium, Front National in France or the NPD in Germany. He certainly looks less like an extreme-right-type than many of the Dutch policemen I have seen on the streets.
