Re: comment "How low can you get?"Reader comment on item: A Prof [Hamid Dabashi] Tangles the Truth Submitted by Rodni E. Chalet (United States), Apr 5, 2005 at 23:29 Dear Mr. Ryan:I was not writing satire here! In fact, I was candidly stating that many Arab-American scholars and especially those in the field of Islamic and Middle Eastern studies are being subjected to an unfair campaign by an extremist partisan group with an agenda to discredit and silence them. Its rather unfortunate that Israel's friends and allies have chosen the path of slander, threats, lies and sensational cheap tabloids propaganda rather than debating the issues academically! Why not debate the issue academically? Because many influential and Jewish extremists along with many of their revisionist allies refuse to even recognize the existence of the Palestinian people...! Let alone discussing their struggle for statehood and independence. Sadly this is also the case that many moderate Arab scholars confronts whenever attempting to reconcile or acknowledge the historic rights of the Jewish People in what is today the state of Israel. This is why my first post was under the title "How Low Can you Get". Unfortunately, revisionists and extremists on both sides seems bent on destroying any bridges of constructive debates and acknowledging the right of others to exist! Lastly, I would like to thank you for taking the time and effort to read what I had to say regarding this issue. With kind regards -Rodni
