Well. I'll try to answer this appeal. I support Ibrahim's opinion and admire Daniel's optimism which I don't share.

Daniel offers seemingly valid example (Leviticus 20:13) of adapting to modern realities.

There is some dissimilarity though.

1. Koran 9:29 lays in a core of acceptance of non-Muslim world while L.20:13 concerns with a marginal group. Violent following of the former leads to global war, implementing the latter would affect a small group of men, tragic but not global.

2. Judaism cannot be compared with Islam on the scale of peaceful exchange of opinions. This crucial difference plays into Muslim rigidity vs. Jewish flexibility, notwithstanding common religious orthodoxy.

3. Jewish rejection of murdering gays is a reality for Millennia while cancellation of K.9:29 is an optimistic dream. We are still hoping that Muslims stop murdering gays let alone peaceful acceptance of non-Muslims contradicting K.9:29. Perhaps Millennium later, not in observable future.

4. There is a factor reinforcing the politics and practice of implementing K.9:29. Paradoxically, Christians move Islamists closer to the final solution - eradicating Christians and Jews - by playing into Islamists anti-Semitic hands. Norway and France, perhaps, are the leading Christian countries heavily infected with anti-Semitic tendencies, where substantial number of Christians and non-Christians fall into anti-Semitic propaganda spread by Islamists in most European countries and forcing thousands of Jewish families to emigrate. For the last decades anti-Semitism shows no signs of subsiding, increasingly manifesting and the same time masking itself in so-called "criticism of Israel by international community" and therefore providing Islamists with substantiated hopes for achieving their goals prescribed by K.9:29.

5. How mosquitoes get under your skin - "It's gross, but remarkable. That saliva contains a drug that acts like an anesthetic. The little buggers numb us out so we don't know they're probing around in our skin! "

Killing Jews has been historically proved to be the most successful preparation for conquering non-Jews. Hitler has demonstrated this spectacularly. Following his "success" Islamists insert this mind-numbing saliva into Christian world.

6. Since Munich Olympics terrorism gets the upper hand. Receiving unspoken approval from anti-Semites, meeting no adequate response, being appeased to, gaining prominence and support among Muslims, being considered as representative political force and party for negotiations (Muslim Brotherhood, Taliban), - terrorist organizations play a role of successful avant-garde in Islamists' endeavor of creating the World Caliphate, where non-Muslims have no place or place of dhimmis, which is the final solution for K.9:29.

7. No person in right mind would suggest that all or majority of German population in 30s had a murderous convictions and tendency to exterminate Jews. Based on these premises can we consider existence of "Moderate Nazism" during Hitler era? Comparing the notorious tales of "peaceful Islam" with German culture of prewar centuries, science, music, literature, art, can we suggest that the moderate Nazism was a solution to Hitlerism?

8. There are different environments where microorganisms can exist more or less comfortably, function more or less effectively. There is alcohol where they have virtually no chance. Democracy and tolerant monarchy allow competition of different ideas. Totalitarism kills anything contradicting its dogma. We witness inclination towards democracy in Judeo-Christian world vs. totalitarian tendencies in Muslim world. This crucial difference leaves us little hope that peaceful competition of ideas within Islam will prevail.

9. "jihad … is regarded by all jurists, with almost no exception, as a collective obligation of the whole Muslim community." In this context, all true Muslims play role in conquering the world. Muslims blowing themselves instill fear, create atmosphere of submission. Elections in Spain after 11-M is a perfect example of such successful practice. Muslims keeping silent approval of terrorism create an illusion of moderation. Both groups are active jihadists regardless their actions or inactions. Only Muslims sincerely condemning and fighting Islamism can be excluded. The question is how many are they and what mosque do they go.
