Nuclear War and Breakfast on the TableReader comment on item: Middle East threats, American retreat Submitted by Michael S (United States), Jul 29, 2014 at 16:40 HI, Lujack. Here are responses to what you said: "Jesuit Pope Francis is collecting many Protestant churches into his fold..." There are some Bible scholars and commentators, Jewish as well as Christian, who see significance in the fact that the current Pope is a Jesuit. I am not one of them. In fact, the most Divinely significant thing I can see about the papacy today is that the two living popes (itself a rarity) were able to root for opposing teams in the World Cup Finals. Pope Benedict may have come away from that experience with a smirk of delight on his face, thinking, as Jesus said, "The old is better". Zech. 14:2-9: some problems with what you said: "...in the end the Lord's victory..." The text actually translates as, "Zech 14 "the Lord" -- which, to Christians, can mean "God", "Jesus" or some combination of both -- does not appear in the original. Even the Protestant King James Bible makes a clear distinction, translating occurrences of the Hebrew equivalent of "the Lord" in either lower case or an upper/lower mix, and "יהוה" with the all-uppercase " LORD. What you have done, many Jews consider a deliberate misrepresentation of the scriptures, though most Jews probably ascribe this to ignorance. Zech 14:3 does not say that any "Messiah" or "Jesus" will go forth. It says that "יהוה", whom Jesus repeatedly called "the Father", would go forth. This is essentially a Jewish blog, so it's worthwhile to get these things straight. "... in the end the Lords victory shall call their God as one... John 3:16 is the true ticket to heaven..." From the Jewish point of view, there is no coherence in anything you said here. As for my own understanding, one doesn't get a "ticket to heaven": Either he lives in the kingdom of heaven (as Jesus said, "The kingdom of heaven is within you"), or he walks in darkness. Zech 14 does not develop as the mass entry of people into this state of mind: It develops as a nuclear war: "Zech 14 [12] And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth. [15] And so shall be the plague of the horse, of the mule, of the camel, and of the ass, and of all the beasts that shall be in these tents, as this plague." This speaks of a nuclear exchange -- not necessarily between Israel and her enemies, but more likely, as it says above, an exchange of one attacking nation against his "neighbor" --North Koreans vs. Japanese, Japanese vs. Chinese, Chinese vs. Indians, Indians vs. Pakistanis, Iranians vs. Israelis, Saudis vs. Iranians, Turks vs. Saudis, Russians vs. Turks, Americans vs. Russians, etc. In the confusion, especially considering that EMP devices will severely disrupt communication, it will be impossiple to know from where an incoming missile originated; and the response will be universal. That's not theology: it's a real, imminent danger that the world seems oblivious to. Breakfast is on the table... gottarun.
