A question to this reader

Dear Dr Pipes, your reader Mr Abdallah mentions many praises of Mr Jamil Al-Amin but he does not at all mention that he killed a police officer and was convicted for it. Is this latter fact relevant at all in Mr Abdallah's judgment. Is there any truth that is not dependent on whether it is Islamic or not? Muslim scholars and apologists need to answer.
