"Iran's Supreme Leader pens open letter to the young people of the West"Reader comment on item: Calling Islamism the Enemy Submitted by Ludvikus (United States), Jan 22, 2015 at 11:37 Dear Daniel Pipes, According to Iran's Supreme Leader, the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, you need to be by-passed by him. So he is now addressing the youths of the West, preaching to them, that they judge the true nature of Islam on their own. And here, you differ from Geert Wilders, because you have respect for Islam. The fact is, Dear Daniel Pipes, our Western Tradition demand's Tolerance, not respect. In this case we should insult this theocratic spokesman for Shia'a Islam for his attempt to preach to us. We are not required by our tradition to respect the Pope. Or even the Bible. We are merely required to be tolerant of our people's right to worship as they please. You "respect" for Islam, Daniel Pipes, is your private right - and a reflection of your own religious interpretation of what Islam is. But I don't thing you ever thought of contemplating the "burning of crosses" because it is disrespectful to Christianity. Rather, you oppose such burnings because it is a reflection of violent racism against the former slaves of our democratic republic. I wish you would withdraw your personal observation, that you respect Islam, as totally irrelevant to your condemnation of Islamic terrorism as reflected in the neologism, Islamism. It is important to point out to all, the young, as well as foreigners, that we only are required to respect human beings, in regard to their Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. And when it comes to Religion, we have the American right to be as disrespectful as we please, as long as we do not harm directly the constitutional rights of our fellow citizens or residents of the United States of America, and its Territories. And when it comes to the pompous Ayatollahs of the Middle East, let them preach to the self-proclaimed Muslims who commit their violent atrocities while invoking the name of Islam and its Prophet Mohammad. This Iranian Ayatollah, on the other, who is major spokesman of the Religion, Islam, which you, Daniel Pipes "respects," will have our vulnerable "youth" believe that neither Mohammad, nor Islam, nor any Muslim, had anything to do with 9/11, as reported in the "Western Media," in spite of the 19 Muslim men who took down 3 airplanes on that day - which should rightfully cause every man named "Muhammad" to be seen with suspicion, including the founder of that "respectable" religion that took root in the 7th century of our Common Era. http://edition.cnn.com/2015/01/22/middleeast/iran-ayatollah-letter/ Submitting....

Daniel Pipes replies: I am surprised that anyone would make this demand of me or deem it a matter of my own religious interpretation. No, I respect religions in general, including Islam, and then go on to the topics that concern me, being primarily history and politics. Reader comments (90) on this item
