Reader comment on item: How Serious the Strain in U.S.-Israel Relations?

Submitted by Michael S (United States), Apr 6, 2015 at 02:55

Hello, Waz and Charlie G.

That "English Speaking Union" stuff was being floated when I was in Australia in the 1960s. It was soundly defeated, by the realization that Australia's future lie in developing good and strong relations with its Asian trade partners. As though I consented to this thinking, I eventually consented to my daughter marrying a Chinaman, and have four beautiful grandchildren as a reward.

I am fond of the Aussies, and have a close connection as well with the Brits. My deceased mother-in-law was English, my roommates in Australia were English and Scottish, and my own ancestry is about half Anglo-Scottish (howbeit from 300-400 years ago). I've no doubt that we are all related, nor do I doubt our close connection to the Slovenians, Swedes, Dutch, Germans, Jews, French and other Westerners who also are represented in my family tree. All that said, I don't see a connection between our respective governments and our kinsmen. SOME of my ancestors used to sing "Queen Anne commands, and I obey" in the early 1700s; but we sand a different tune in 1776, and for a good reason. Even Queen Anne hadn't been all that popular with many of my people: We faced a common enemy with the last Stuart monarch, in the French and their Indian allies; that's about it. The US, Australia, the UK, etc. are our feudal lords, in my mind, so we pay them taxes and give them our children to bleed in their wars. I try to watch my tongue when talking about them, but I do not love them -- whether they're "democratically elected" or no.

My nation, and my eternal family, are the spiritual sons of Abraham; and the God of Israel, whom they answer to. Some of them are Europeans; some are Chinese and Korean, some Africans, some Latin Americans. Some are even Jews. Those are my brothers and sisters, forever.
