Press the button? Yes, sir!Reader comment on item: Debating the Iran Deal Submitted by Michael S (United States), Apr 29, 2015 at 02:21 Hello, Fabio I have no doubt, that the Iranians would attack Israel with nuclear weapons if they had them. Consider the record: 1. Japan. Used kamikaze suicide-bombers, who chose to kill thousands and themselves as well for the Emperor. 2. The US. We rightly feared that the Japanese would resist to the last man, just like the kamikaze pilots, if we invaded Japan; so we nuked them. 3. Germany. Hitler ordered the death of all Germans and the destruction of their cities, wherever the Allies advanced. Fortunately for Germany, Hitler's officers saw the end coming, and with it war crimes trials; so they didn't obey him. 4. Russia, UK, France, China, India, Israel, South Africa, Pakistan, North Korea -- some of them dictatorships, but others democracies -- all have followed the US in acquiring nukes, even after a demonstration of the destruction they caused. They acquired them, and they plan to use them. 5. In the US ballistic-missile submarine fleet, at least, the men are regularly drilled for a nuclear attack. They do not know whether or not an attack has actually happened against the US, or if they have been ordered by the President to press the button. Nonetheless, they ALWAYS press the button. 6. Iran has not shown itself any less fanatically suicidal than any of the above: In the Iran-Iraq war, they sent their own children through minefields like pigs, to trip the mines. You used the expression, "just" to save face. US President Nixon sacrificed over 20,000 American lives in Vietnam, AFTER he had already announced his intention to quit the conflict. His only reason was to save face. I don't believe the Iranians are any less willing to do this sort of thing than we are: Just as Nixon's life was not on the line, neither is the Ayatollah's. He'll fight to the last drop of other people's blood -- and certainly, to the last drop of Jewish blood. It's the Jewish blood I'm concerned about, of course; and so is PM Netanyahu.
