Funding and regulating religions is strictly a matter of the states, not the Federal GovernmentReader comment on item: No Saudi Money for American Mosques Submitted by Michael S (United States), Sep 9, 2016 at 03:47 Many states had "established religions" in the US while and after the constitution ans bill of rights were written; so the "establishment clause" did not allow to make rules FOR or AGAINST the establishment of religion: It was to be a matter for the STATES to decide, and the states alone. This amendment has obviously been perverted, in recent decades, by US Supreme Court decisions. Obviously, the US government has no authority to fund Saudi mosques, or any other mosques, in this country; nor does it have the authority to mandate Atheist teachings in schools, any schools, in the US: These are all matters for the states and local communities to decide. That is the intent of the first amendment. It looked nice on paper, in 1789; but our leaders have long since consigned it to the garbage can.
