"rightfully nationalized the Suez Canal" ?Reader comment on item: Ike's Gamble Submitted by Dave, Mar 16, 2017 at 07:04 Nasser had put Egypt on a war footing with Israel by conducting terrorist raids (the apostate and pro-Israel Nonie Darwish was the Fedayeen leader's daughter), and openly calling for Israel's destruction. By seizing the Suez he had put international freedom of navigation in jeopardy and given Israel an excuse to seize the Sinai, which would have been a valuable buffer. Of course, if you think Nasser was a good guy and Israel is illegitimate, then anything he did was right.
