All sports teams try to do well in competitions because that is the surest way to increase sponsorship. The jihadi are no different. Each attack increase the amount of sponsorship a jihadi group get. Their sponsors and their foot-soldiers might believe in a cause but the leadership are in it for the salary and their personal egos.
