Theocracies do not belong to any organization of nationsReader comment on item: The Erdoğan Enigma Submitted by Prashant, Apr 22, 2017 at 07:59 Dear Dr Pipes, Your reader Saul Stein says that Israel will be a better candidate for membership in NATO than Islamic Turkey. I agree. I think Islamic theocracies of the world which --by definition-- discriminate against some of their citizens while support the others do not belong to any organization of nations based on egalitarian principles. NATO is a military organization and Turkey's membership in NATO (specially during the cold war) can be justified, but I cringe with surprise when a person from an Islamic country is appointed to a human rights position in UNO. I think Islamic theocracies do not even belong to the United Nations.
