Posturing for Things to Come...Reader comment on item: The Erdoğan Enigma Submitted by M Tovey (United States), Apr 24, 2017 at 11:00 Erdoğan is many things to many people; an enigma to be sure, but not so mysterious if one remembers history's greatest lesson: absolute power corrupts absolutely. Let us realize further that Erdoğan is not the only power player in the region and do not forget his position has many implications that do not bode well for any kind of stability, especially in Turkey. Like al-Assad, many are the mighty that are fallen and Turkey is now running in the queue. Reader Erdemir does present some interesting insight on who the players of Turkey's downfall might be, but the bigger picture will rest with how Turkey's relationship with Russia and the Bear's intentions in being the bigger power in the region will be compatible. Much academia has been spent on the varying speculations, but the facts on the ground are making sport of that in the final analysis.
