Erdogan does not perceive that price is too high for two reasons

(1) Erdogan does not perceive that the price is too high because he is successfully solidifying the Turkish people behind his government while at the same time he is representing to other Muslims that he is fearless/ruthless when dealing with any individual, group or state that somehow opposes any of his actions. To Erdogan, the gains received far outweigh any costs so far encountered;
(2) hubris - the all important "prop" for any dictator.
