Democracy in the Islamic world

Reader comment on item: End the False Israeli-Palestinian Parity
in response to reader comment: enough, already

Dear Dr Pipes, your reader Richard Hirschhorn suggested that Israel should adopt a no peace, no land, and no recognition policy with, so called, Palestine. I fully concur. In fact, the non-Muslim world should go one step beyond. When we interact with the Islamic nations and societies we tell them that it is not our purpose to impose our way of life on them. Even Donald Trump said this in his speech in Saudi Arabia.

I think the time has come to end this policy. Democracy and freedom of speech are not just western values or western ways of life. They are human values that allow people to treat each other in peace and with respect and dignity. Time has now come for the free people to demand from the Islamic societies to end their theocratic setups and bring democracy in their constitutions and mindsets. It is as simple and as complex as this. Period.

If any part of Islam are not compatible with democracy, those parts should respectfully be set aside. Islam does set aside many of its doctrines. No harm will be done if sets aside the parts that are anti-democracy.

There is no reason why Islamic world should be theocratic while every other country is obligated to be democratic.
