The litmus test for all nations including Dubai.

Dear Dr Pipes,

Your readers Peter Hall and John mentioned many faults of Dubai (like prostitution, corrupt banking system, poorly constructed houses etc). Most of these faults may indeed be true for Dubai but neither of these two respondents asked the most crucial question: Is Dubai a state that grants freedom to its residents and visitors. This is the litmus test that all Islamic theocracies including Dubai fails.

Until Dubai becomes a free democratic state that understands and implements separation of church and state, it is not a country worth doing business with.
