Trump getting involved with Abbas at this point would be, well, dumbReader comment on item: Israel Has Nothing to Fear from Trump's Plan? Submitted by Michael S (United States), May 30, 2018 at 16:28 Daniel and Jonathan, Both of you are putting a lot of stock in the likelihood that President Trump will roll out a newly-regurgitated "Middle East Peace Plan" next month -- in time, of course, for Israel to become a focal point of the mid-term elections. If anyone in the Trump administration is really dreaming of doing such a thing, they must be a little dingy. Much more likely, he will work with Kim Jong Un to get a reasonably good-sounding deal in Korea; and that, together with a booming economy, will get a lot of Republican candidates across the finish line. ...but initiate a "Middle East Peace" talk? NOW? He would have to have a death wish, and I don't think he does. I remember seeing an adventure show or movie on TV, many years ago, about some travellers on a small canoe on the backwaters of the Amazon. The canoe got stuck on a rock, in pirrana-infested waters. Someone had to get out of the canoe, go underwater and push the boat off. Meanwhile, another person in the boat held a big side of meat in the water at the other end, to occupy the frenzy-feeding fish. If I were Trump, I think I would let the Dems occupy themselves with Russian conspiracies, "Me Too!" scandals and the like, go underwater and come up with a Korean Peace Plan, of ANY magnitude -- maybe a US-N. Korean basketball match. But to get involved with the dying Mahmud Abbas? That would be like tying a rock to his neck and jumping into the river.
