Nice analysisReader comment on item: Europe's Civilizationist Parties Submitted by M.L.Lipson (United States), Nov 10, 2018 at 15:13 Excellent analytical article in Commentary Magazine and helpful to many of us who intuitively sense a difference between patriotism and nationalism but have experienced difficulty in defining each in the precise language needed to truly appreciate this "civilizationalist" phenomenon which is now steadily making inroads into Europe. But it begs the question: What is the solution? This genie is now out of the bottle as a result of Europe's (i.e., Merkel's) generous and, to some, wrongheaded open door policy. Several of these countries have significant Muslim minorities which, for various reasons, are unwilling to change long standing cultural traditions-traditions anathema to the relatively homogeneous tribal groups into which they have injected themselves. Indeed, are we looking ultimately at future mass deportations and/or civil war on this continent?
