Treason Hardly Dead, Only Moribund

Treason is only dead in the minds of the neosocialist internationalists of the world, who openly yearn for the end of all national borders. While the very concept may not be politically correct, Dr. Pipes confuses anti-government, even anti-society protesting (fully protected free speech) with active, tangible aiding and comforting an enemy in time of war, especially from a position or status where one is able to do demonstrable harm.

Walker Lindh did not BETRAY America in the sense Benedict Arnold did; he himself turned coat alone, which is a different offense, for which he was appropriately charged and convicted. Not even Jane Fonda, however odious her behavior, did not commit treason, because she had nothing to betray to the North Vietnamese other than her voice and celebrity. Joanthan Pollard, Aldrich Ames, and the two Navy brothers (name?) are all spending their lifetimes in prison because they did in fact betray their country, but on the basis of violating national fiduciary duties inherent in their specific jobs (again, for which they were charged appropriately). A bona fide treason charge would undoubtedly attach, however, if a deputy undersecretary of defense, military officer, or some other non-functionary official were outed as passing military or militarily useful information to al Qaida or Iran. Watch and see, Dr, Pipes, I believe that it will likely happen soon!
