Respect given to Christians and Jews because the Qu'ran says so....RightReader comment on item: "A Corrective to the Pipes Worldview"? Submitted by David W. Lincoln (Canada), Aug 29, 2005 at 17:54 Whatever latitude that would have emanated from me to those who are taking cheap shots at Mr. Pipes, that amount of room shrunk measurably when I read, ".....the Qur'anic obligation to respect Christians and Jews, ....."I've read about that respect. In Egypt permission has to be granted by the government when repairs are needed for either mosque or church. The amount of time for government to grant permission for the repair of mosques is so much faster than the glacial pace that government moves to grant permission for repairs of a church. Not to mention other deliberate slights like no bells to be rung (which totally goes against the identity of the faith I belong to. Which is the Orthodox Church) Not to mention the silence of the Moslem world when dealing with topics affecting Moslems (for instance the Soviet Union rolling into Afghanistan, or the un-declared war Beijing is waging against Muslims in Sinkiang, et al.), especially when these topics have nothing to deal with the Arab-Israeli standoff in the part of the world where three continents come together. There are other matters about Arab Aryanism that are being swept under the rug, but it all adds up to one huge mess. No, there is a lot to be done by Islam. The consequences are that I have to check, and check again, and check again a third time, if not a fourth time; in regards to what they say and what they do. After all, I don't like the status quo when one can only walk on egg shells when dealing with Islam or Arab Aryanism.
