Time to pass the torchReader comment on item: Fifty Years of Fascination Submitted by Dave (United States), Sep 29, 2019 at 20:00 Academia today is so captivated by the far left, that few students have the mental toughness to resist and form truly independent ideas. You are very unusual in this respect and it would be a shame to squander an opportunity to do something that would preserve and proliferate the sort of pro-western thinking that your research embodies. Just as the Irish monks preserved western civilization during the Dark Ages, a similar task is now required to rescue future generations from the clutches of today's Dark Age academic left. Please explore this possibility. If you can't start a new college, maybe an existing one will let you head their Middle East studies department. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate. For complete regulations, see the "Guidelines for Reader Comments". Daniel Pipes replies: Thank you for the compliment. Sadly, I lack the $3.4 billion that one estimate suggests is necessary to start a new university: http://www.danielpipes.org/18771/repairing-america-broken-universities. I am not, with my views, about to be invited to enter the academy and run some thing. So, in my small way, I try to encourage sound thinking - in my writing and via the Middle East Forum.
