Read Jeff said it most beautifully!Reader comment on item: Fifty Years of Fascination Submitted by Prashant (United States), Oct 4, 2019 at 20:57 Dear Dr Pipes, Describing his discovery of ME/Islam through the evening newspapers, your reader Jeff said the entire truth in three or four sentences. Jeff said, "I started to wonder, who are the Druze? Who are the Maronites? Who are the Kurds? Who are the Shia? And why do they all have militias?" I can answer Jeff's question and I will have to be blunt. They all have militias because every one of them has to defend and advance Islam and use of violence is permitted toward this goal! And, these Militias were not born in 1948 or 1947 or 1972. They have existed since the 7th century. As I have said many times on the forum by some uncanny coincidence by the year 711, through its violent invaders Islam had reached India on the East and Spain on the West. And, our friendly Islamic attackers had already captured Jerusalem and Constantinople before that. We need to teach this history to every human over and over again. Perhaps Islamic doctrine is perfect but it still needs to go back wherever it came from and be brought back by a humble monk and not by a blood-thirsty invader.
