I had the privilege of visiting Minsk in the 90s and chatting with Belorussian generals about some Nunn-Lugar work. It was eye-opening. It is a shame that more Americans cannot have the same kind of experiences.

In my case, I spent the night before on a plank "bed" with a worn towel for a "mattress" in the best hotel in Minsk. Softening me up, I guess.

The other thing I learned was that our American military "aides" were mostly interested in their own agenda as well.
