Consistent Trump DoctrineReader comment on item: The Death of Soleimani and Its Consequences Submitted by IssacNewton (United States), Jan 27, 2020 at 14:59 The pattern with President Trump is clear. Kill an American and we will attack you. This is an event driven strategy. The US is pulling out of the Middle East and the locals can keep the peace (or not). The only exception I see is that Trump does not want Iran to become a nuclear power. He may be willing to support attacks to stop or at least delay that. The US is Energy Independent, it is no our oil, our trade, and generally not our Allies. He is trying to get EU/NATO to pick up the ME balls, it would be good to for them to control Syrian territory. It would be a place to return refugees to. They do not want to do this... Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
