Wise Advice.Reader comment on item: Annexing the West Bank Would Hurt Israel Submitted by S. Berman (United States), May 8, 2020 at 23:19 Dr. Pipes has given Israel some very wise advice. His sixth reason is especially important. Though a surprisingly large percentage of Arabs are rather happy with Israel and are even happy to defend it, I doubt that many in West Bank would be. If they got full citizenship they might destabilize the politics of Israel even more than it is already destabilized. If somehow they were kept in a non-citizen status, this would just amplify the charges of apartheid. In fact, it would legitimize them. Though this should be obvious, whenever you are thinking of doing something you need to ask 1) what is my ultimate goal and 2) does what I am proposing help me get that goal. If I assume that the main goal here is to help ensure the continued existence of Israel as a Jewish state, a haven for all Jews in the world and a center of Jewish religious life, I don't think the annexation accomplishes the goal. You can have too little land. And you can have too much. I think the West Bank annexation would be too much.
