"Sri Lanka moves to ban burqas and close more than 1,000 Islamic schools"

Dear Dr Pipes,

I just read this new today in alignment with this article of yours which we were debating recently, and I'd like to share it with you and your readers.

Especially, I'd love to hear your opinion about the closing down of the Islamic schools. Since the country is a Socialist Democratic Republic, and mainly formed by Buddhists (more than 70% of the population), it is not a surprise that this would happen. Also, they have been hit by the Islamic terrorism in no little occasions, suffering from churches attacks and what not.

As expected, Aljazeera has already criticised the measure as extremist, included in the "Racist agenda" of Sri Lanka government. However, the burqa has posed already great danger and threatened the national security, and this is their main reason to put in place this measure.

This ban comes after the ordinance of cremation of Covid-19 infected bodies, which is explicitly forbidden by Islam, regardless of any logic to burn corpses. Needless to say that the Islamic population considers this as a provocation, further than a healthy measure.

Note that in Sri Lanka, less than 10% of the population is Muslim.

How is that a country such as Sri Lanka doesn't have any fear of the consequences when it comes to implementing such great changes for the sake of their national security while Western countries can't even open the debate? Although we all can sense the answer, I'd love to read your valuable and formed opinion which more than likely deserves an article, as well as the regular readers/writers' insight of this website
