Judaic Observations of Being Sons of Abraham, Issac and Jacob - Observance Vs Lip Service

What does the observance of the Law say about observance of the Law? It appears in the Hebrew Holy Writ that lip service was just as much of an offense as not observing the rites and running off in idolatrous pursuits of the unbelieving world.
