It is absolutely correct that Republicans need to move beyond a conspiratorial mindset. Much of the conspiratorial mentality stems from the fact that the party has become a projection, on a large scale, of the personal grievances and peculiar complaints of one particular individual. Granted, unfailing opposition (as evidenced by the Never-Trumpers) is not very different from unfailing loyalty. This is a very unfortunate affliction. Perhaps the author, with his expertise in the politics of one of the most autocratic regions on the planet, may have particular insight as to how the United States can rescue itself from this most unfortunate political miasma.
