Your ideals are admirable, but you (or your descendants) have a problem with Islam regardless of your good faith.

Islam is that it is both a prosletyzing religion and an intolerant religion which actually defines non-believers as lesser beings.

Your proposed remedy of simply living in peace with your Muslim neighbors will only work until your Muslim neighbors attain sufficient numbers via conversion or demographic increase to define a sharia state which permanently disadvantages you until you submit - which is what Islam is all about.

Yes, yes, yes, the apologists will point to the excesses of Christianity under the vicious leadership of intolerant popes and breakaway protestant leaders in the dark ages and middle ages. Islam today is about where the inquisition was then. Today's so-called Islamic holy men share with the christians of those days the concept of "slay them all, the lord will know his own."

Your choices are to resist, convert, or accept dhimmi status.
