Thoughtless Patriotism amuses meReader comment on item: Sajjilu Arab American Submitted by Prashant (India), Jan 27, 2023 at 21:06 Dear Dr Pipes, Steven Salaita has written on Thoughtless Patriotism so he must have good understanding of the words 'thoughtless' and 'patriotism'. That makes me happy because I like it when people understand thoughtlessness. I hope Mr Salaita will easily understand what 'thoughtless liberalism' might be (I call it knee jerk liberalism). Mr Salaita will probably appreciate that just because someone is protesting and playing victim, they do not become right. He would probably also see the dangers that thoughtless Islamic support of everything Muslim poses to our world. When you start questioning thoughtlessness, lots of doors start opening for you. Hope there are some such openings for Salaita and those whom he represents. (Sarcasm on) It is very easy these days to make a career apologising for Muslims. It is extremely simple. Judging by the modern world standards, Muslims do wrong things every day and every where. And, there a billion of them. Not one of them admits any mistakes of Islam. Still some people try to expose Islam. That offers a great career choice to young non-muslims: Defend Islam as a non-Muslim. You will look modern and fair. You will have a endless supply of things to defend. You might get grants. You will get published. You might even get bribed to write to defend Muslims. If you so decide, you can even fight and win an election in a carefully chosen liberal district. And, if you need friends, you have a billion of them. If a university denies you employment, you can sue them and win a million dollars in compensation. Steven Salaita has chosen a good career. I am sure as soon as he finishes his bus driver assignment, he will find a good writing job in one of the Islamic countries.
