Challenging beginningsReader comment on item: Something Rotten in Denmark? Submitted by JustMe (United States), Apr 4, 2006 at 10:35 I think it's probably pertinent and fair to note that Mohammed had quite a bloody history. It seems he started out just raiding and being a thief. He and his army would lay in wait along a well-travelled area and plunder and steal from caravans on this 'highway'. The Battle of Badr is actually a source of pride for Muslims. The following is an excerpt from Wikipedia:"Prior to the battle, the Muslims and Meccans had fought several smaller skirmishes in late 623 and early 624, as the Muslim ghazawāt plundering raids grew increasingly commonplace, but this was their first large-scale battle. Muhammad was leading a raiding party against a caravan when he was surprised by a much larger Quraishi army." Here's the definition of ghazawat (how Mohammed funded his obsession. Good incite on where their current work ethics come from): Ghazw (plural ghazawāt) (Arabic: غزو) is an Arabic word meaning an armed incursion for the purposes of conquest, plunder, or the capture of slaves and is cognate with the terms ghāziya and maghāzī. In pre-Islamic times it signified the plundering raids organized by nomadic Bedouin warriors against either rival tribes or wealthier, sedentary neighbours. You can also see how bloody the life of this peace-loving prophet was. Apparently, after the revelation in the cave (610), he couldn't convince his tribe to believe it, so by 623/624 it became obvious he would just have to force his beliefs on them. 610: The first revelation in the cave at Mt.
