PC - Good point VivianReader comment on item: Bad News from Slippery Rock Submitted by van der Ley (Canada), Apr 18, 2006 at 15:20 Good point VivianPC is a recurring theme in many postings – mine included – and rightly so, as it has done, along with multiculturalism, an enormous disservice to Western culture: the gradual weakening and displacement of values and practices based on democratic freedom by the concept of "group rights" (conferring to subsets of the general population certain privileges which cannot be enjoyed by other members of society). By replacing the principle of "equal opportunity" with the notions of "equal outcome" and victimization, which are hallmarks of PC and multicultural talk, Antonio Gramsci's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonio_Gramsci) thought on Hegemony has found fertile ground in Western popular culture (Michael Moore and others), in academia, and among "intellectuals" (Chomsky and the like). In reality, much of the relentless actions against the West could be traced back to the old communist propaganda: (1) Morals: any attempts by the West to claim any level of higher moral standards will be automatically dismissed on the basis of past colonialism and racist practices; (2) Wealth: Western wealth is a direct consequence of the exploitation of poorer nations, a fruit of its colonialist nature; (3) Crime: criminals are victims of the exploitation by the wealthy and are, therefore, oppressed; (4) Violence: violence is always justified as long as you identify yourself as oppressed; (5) Terror: since terror is one of the means by which the oppressed fights the evil oppressor, it is automatically endorsed by items (1) to (4) above. In essence, this sequence not only serves those who have vested interest in destroying the West, but also has been adapted, willingly or not, to justify a number of severely undermining policies, ideas and actions by Western governments and institutions – effectively destroying our civilization from within. Moreover, the asymmetric relationship which stems form this sequence, i.e. that the West is bound by a moral code of conduct that is not matched by the enemies – gives them the ability to shout "foul!" at us at will, while allowing them to do whatever they want, like blowing themselves up in busy restaurants and subways, driving SUVs into a crowd of students, or hijacking airplanes and smashing them onto office buildings. One just needs a little imagination to see how this line of thought leads the "feminists" and "leftists" to support what should never be supported.
