re: mad_Jesus_Moses_adamReader comment on item: Bad News from Slippery Rock Submitted by true believer (India), May 2, 2006 at 03:48 How many unviversities in the Gulf have capacity for serious research and development ? Jordan had a good one but it has become too bureaucratic to be any good. Syria has a couple of good ones which offer courses but only at only at graduate level. Most of the Arab schools and universities are only capable of manufacturing graduates who learn by rote without having the real ability for practical application. Foreign run/affiliated universities maybe somewhat better. How many moslem arab women get higher education in these universities ? How many distinguished scientists and engineers have these universities produced ? Unless their degrees have been backed up by a better, higher ones from the west, they have often ended up with secure pen-pushing government jobs or teaching in those very schools or doing something else. How many news papers circulate in arab countries. A recent survey put it at 83/1000. What about translations of scientific books to local lnaguages ? The number of books translated in the whole arab world is less than that of a single small country like Greece ! When I write something I make sure that I know the facts. Which "other countries" and "Kashmir" are you talking about. One of the main reasons for partition of the Indian sub continent was then policy of British coupled with the insecurity/fanaticism of the moslem on the subcontinent. But what followed it is entirely Pakistani attempts to validate their two nation theory. India is having problems in Kashmir because of the terrorist acts and aggression from Pakistan which cannot digest the fact that more muslims are living in India than in Pakistan. India treats its minorities better that any moslem country. It has a president who is Muslim (APJ Abdul Kalam) A prime minister who is a Sikh (Manmohan Singh) and the leader of the ruling party who was born a catholic in Italy (Soina Gandhi ). Every country has got problems and so does India. Can you imagine this in a moslem country ? Sometimes generalisations are really accurate. Palestine problem will never be resolved because the moslem arabs will neither let Palestine negotiate nor recognise Israel's right to exist. Why are you blaming western powers for this ? There is no politics in this save the pure, unbridled hatred in the arab and moslem world for the Jewish state of Israel. There is no politics in terrorism, just a crazy ideology that is driving the world mad. You sold the dirty swamps to the Jews for huge profits. When they developed the land into something beautiful and worthwile, you started 5 wars and funded countless terrorist attacks across Israel, and failed, but still would not learn. And when did the moslem arab learn to talk peace ? Arabs inside Israel (not Palestine) are much better off than minorities in the islamic countries. Moslem Arabs even hold seats in the Israeli parliament, may be you did not know that. And what is the arab world doing ? Sitting in air conditioned palaces and funding palestinians to blow themselves up in Israel. Go and buy a world atlas map or globe in Saudi, you won't find Israel on the map ! The elected Hamas government does not accept Arab League declaration passed in Beirut in 2002, specifically the recognition of the 1967 borders and a just solution to the refugee problem. With the exception of Egypt, Jordan and Mauritiana, most of the arab and moslem governments refuse to acknowlege Israel's existence. Is the western world politics to blame for this ? Stop using the west as a punch bag to take out your frustrations due to your self created problems ? And what do you mean by "Indians are the best people when they are out of India but worst when they are in India ?" Indians are doing really good at home in the fields of engineering and medicine. Its IITs and IIMs produce the best of scientists and managers and many of them are flourishing in India itself. When did you last come to India, my dear ? They may not be dirt rich like you to be able to afford others to come in and dig their oil , build their roads, houses, hospitals, schools and what not, but given their limited resources they have done much better progress in science and technology that you would have done had you been in their place. They developed nuclear capability locally on their own instead of photocopying it from China or N.Korea. And most important, they kept it peacefully to themselves. I can tell you something from my own experience. Just after 9/11 attacks, almost all of my moslem co-workers without exception (real close ones) supported this terrorist act whole heartedly. They did not dance or celebrate or burst crackers as expected, but very cautiously showed their cold and sober approval of the terrorist attacks in private. Damn it, I am not talking of illiterate camel drivers, there were some of the best engineers in the industry and one of them had even managed to secure a seat in one of the top US universities for doing his MS. This is what the moslem community is whether you like it or not. They will work for US , they will study and work in US, earn in US dollars, try their utmost for getting a green card or US citizenship but will continue to hate US. I can't understand this logic, can you ? Unless your community and governments change and do more than just lip service to contain terrorist you will continue to be generalised. And why not ? All five fingers don't look the same but they pretty much think and act the same way. And I don't see much difference between your old and new generations. In fact your older generations were less radical, less violent than your new ones, and therefore less dangerous. Education can stamp you with an university degree but cannot change the way you think, especially if radical islam has shaped your thinking. We are all children of Adam and Eve, but todays world will make Cain pay dearly for murdering Abel.
