Reader comment on item: Christian Hajjis to Jerusalem

Submitted by Rick House (United States), Jul 17, 2006 at 15:30

What's the big news here? Christians have been going on pilgrimages for centuries. Today, millions still go to the three major Christian sites: Rome, Jerusalem, and Santiago de Campostelo in Spain. Still other Christian pilgrims visit the shrines of saints and martyrs throughout Christiandom... Everyone knows that Christians go on pilgrimages. The problem is that the pilgrims are reported as tourists, not people seeking spiritual renewal. Why you might ask? That's simple. Western government passport documents don't have a box to check for pilgrims.
